Debates about education data use and student privacy are top of mind across the country. But as industry groups, state policymakers, district officials and their stakeholders work to evaluate and adjust policies and practices, the day-to-day business of teaching and learning continues.
The bottom line in schools is that, no matter what’s happening in the media or political spheres, each educator – whether a classroom teacher, an instructional specialist or a school principal – has the responsibility to make the most of the time they have with students. At the same time, each parent or guardian wants to ensure that their student is in a supportive environment where rich learning is a given.
The goal of Ed-Fi technology is to provide a foundation for this day-to-day work of teaching and learning, so it’s fitting that the Alliance blog regularly feature educators talking about:
- traditional challenges of their work, such as addressing the needs of a wide range of learners in a single class room
- the ways in which technology and data help them improve their instructional approach
- how they use teaching time
- the realities of student privacy, security and confidentiality
In the coming weeks, the blog will feature a number of posts from educators in the field. Each of the upcoming guest authors – whether they serve directly with students or provide technology or training support to classroom educators – is ready to share lessons from the trenches. You can count on each to be candid about what has worked, what hasn’t worked and what advice they have for all of us working to improve student success and the public education sector overall.
