Austin vows to keep it weird, and its restaurants promise to keep you full. Following the daily sessions at the Ed-Fi Summit & Bootcamp, our partners will be hosting exclusive networking events at local eateries where attendees can feast on practically anything under the southern sun. The locations won’t be revealed yet, but with so many choices, we’ve boiled (barbecued, baked, and breaded) it down to some of our favorites.
BBQ
It wouldn’t be a visit to Texas without a taste of barbecue. For the top-rated meat eats in Austin, Franklin Barbecue and La Barbecue are key– the lines can be long, but the briskets are worth the wait. If you’re more of a sausage person, Micklethwait Craft Meats is the place for you – the links are far from weak and the bread is always homemade. Kerlin BBQ can fit you in and fill you up – just make sure to arrive before 12:45 p.m.
TexMex
Spice up your stay with a little flavor from the neighbors. Pueblo Viejo, Las Trancas, and El Alma offer Austin’s take on Mexican favorites, from tacos to gorditos.
Food Tucks
Few things are better than meals on wheels. Austin has a robust food truck scene, with nearly every type of food you can imagine. Look no further than El Primo for breakfast burritos – just don’t forget your wallet, it’s cash-only. For Thai, think East Side King, which has lots of spice, as well as suggested cocktail pairings for each dish. Baton Creole has your late night craving covered with deep fried jambalaya and beignets.
Dessert
Don’t forget dessert! Some places even serve it first, like Bribery Bakery, where you can find anything from macaroons to push-up pops. Café No Sé has both cakes and frozen treats, as well as a food truck in the courtyard with funky ice cream options (think Rice Krispie birthday cake). Pick your preferred churro – or try them all – at Churro Co. Flavors range from original cinnamon, to Oreo and pineapple. Donuts are good, but Gourdoguh’s are better. They’re not limited to just dessert either, they even have donut sandwiches and entrees.
Don’t just feast your eyes on all that Austin has to offer, try it all! If you’re attending the Ed-Fi Summit & Bootcamp, you have four full days to fill up on Austin’s finest at various networking events hosted by our partners. Register by August 15 and save $100 with the early bird special – that’s $100 dollars you can put toward tacos or treats. See you there!
